Synthesis of PMMA-PSSQ Nanocomposites via Surface Initiated Radical Polymerization |

Well-defined core-shell structured polymethylmethacylate (PMMA) grafted polysilsesquioxane (PSSQ) nanocomposites (PMMA-g-PSSQ) were synthesized via thiol-lactam initiated radical polymerization by employing a grafting from protocol. Thiol functionalized PSSQ were prepared by hydrolysis and condensation of 3-mercapropropyl-trimethoxysilane in acidic condition. Subsequently, the surface initiated polymerization was accomplished by using two component initiating system comprising thiol functionalized PSSQ(PSSQ-SH) and butyrolactam. The anchoring of PMMA onto the surface of PSSQ-SH was ascertained by 1H-NMR, GPC and XPS analyses. An improved thermal property of the polymer matrix with incorporating PSSQ was revealed by TGA study |
