Absorption of carbon dioxide into the blended solution of piperazine + triethanolamine + water in PVDF hollow fiber membrane contactor |

This work studies the chemical reaction kinetics of carbon dioxide with the blended solution of piperazine and TEA(triethanolamine) in PVDF hollow fiber membrane contactor-stripper hybrid process. Absorption was studied from 303 K to 382 K in the blended solution of piperazine 0.26M, 0.64 M and TEA 0.38M, 1.13M, 2.26M. Also absorption rates as a function of CO2 partial pressure in the blended solutions were measured. The increase of the initial absorbent concentration and CO2 partial pressure showed the high absorption rate of CO2. We found out that the absorption capacity of the blended absorbent of TEA and piperazine with CO2 was mostly governed by piperazine concentration. TEA is the tertiary amine with low CO2 absorption capacity, but it helps hollow fiber membrane keep the non-wetting condition into the fiber's pores because of the high viscosity of TEA. Therefore, the addition of piperazine to TEA which has too low absorption capacity with CO2 makes it possible to obtain the highCO2removal efficiency.
