The purpose of this research is to study how offshore conditions, liquid properties and column diameter affect the absorption performance in a packed column. Mass transfer between liquid and gas phases occurs at the liquid thin film that is made by liquid flowing on packing. While it is obvious that liquid properties affect width and thickness of liquid film, their effects on absorption performance have not been correctly investigated. In addition, understanding of the effect of offshore conditions on the absorption performance is imperative to predict the mass transfer efficiency in a packed column installed on offshore plant such as LNG-FPSO. For the research purpose, pilot scale experiment with a sloshing machine which can realize the offshore conditions was carried out. To obtain a scale-up factor for the absorption performance, three packed columns with 0.4, 0.6 and 0.9 m diameter were employed. In order to experimentally measure the absorption performance, NaOH / CO2 chemical system was employed as other publications suggested. Finally, we quantified about all conditions that affect absorption performance in packed column with structured packing. |
