Nafion/sulfonated poly(phenyl silsesquioxane) (sPPSQ) composite membranes are fabricated using homogeneous dispersive mixing and a solvent casting method. The nanocomposite membranes were prepared by introducing inorganic conducting filler, sulfonated poly(phenylmethyl silsequioxane) (sPPSQ) as a suppressant of fuel crossover and conducting promoter, in an attempt to improve the performance of the perfluorosulfonic acid membrane. The inorganic conducting filler by functionalization with an organic sulfonic acid to PPSQ, sPPSQ significantly affects the characteristics in the nanocomposite membranes properties such as microstructure, proton conductivity, fuel crossover, and single cell performance test. |
