We investigated microstructures of phenol-formaldehyde resin coated by electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) method. Phenol-formaldehyde resin and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solutions were sprayed on each silicon substrate heated at 200oC by ESD. And, these samples were observed by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). PVP formed dense films. On the other hands, phenol-formaldehyde resin formed vertically aligned micro-rods structures. To investigate the structures of phenol-formaldehyde resin by ESD, we use differential scanning calorimetry analysis. As a result, it found that vertically aligned micro-rods structures of phenol-formaldehyde resin were formed through rheological behavior of thermosetting phenol-formaldehyde resin and preferential landing phenomenon of ESD method. |
