Modified mesoporous SBA-15 materials were prepared from the pristine SBA-15 synthesized hydrothermally to get effective media for recovering phosphate from water streams. All amine-grafted silica materials were characterized by XRD, BET, and HR-TEM in detail. Adsorption equilibrium isotherms of phosphate on the sample media were obtained from equilibrium experimental data and fitted well with Langmuir, Sips, and Toth isotherm equations. Kinetic experiments were also carried out in a well-stirred batch adsorption system and the film mass transfer and solid phase mass transfer coefficients were estimated based on the linear driving force approximation (LDFA) model. Based on equilibrium and kinetic results, the optimum recipe for amine-grafting was found. Furthermore it was found from cyclic adsorption experiments that the amine-grafted SBA-15 materials maintain the adsorption capacity for phosphate well in spite of repeated use. |
