Li-ion batteries have been widely used as power sources in portable electronics. Among the electrolytes of battery, gel electrolytes offer moderate ion conductivity and stability. It is needed for Li-ion batteries with high ion conductivity and stability that small amount of gelators and impregnation of gel electrolytes into separators. Because ion conductivity increases due to fast ion transport by small amount of gelators and stability rises due to high stability of gel electrolyte/separator complex. In this study, 4-Butoxy-4'-((cholesteryloxy)carbonyl)azobenzene was prepared by a process including three steps: (a) azo-coupling reaction, (b) williamson reaction, and (c) mitsunobu reaction. The prepared molecule can super-gelate and induce sol-gel transition so that we could impregnate sol electrolyte into separator followed by gelation of electrolyte by small amount of molecule. Therefore, this molecule could be considered as a gelator candidate for electrolytes of Li-ion batteries. |
