Electrochemical Performance of Pitch-based Activated Carbon Fibers for Anode Electrode in Supercapacitors |

In this work, we studied the electrochemical performance of the pitch-based activated carbon fibers prepared by steam activation at different temperatures. The elemental composition of the surface of the activated carbon fibers was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The specific surface area and micropore volumes of the activated carbon fibers were investigated using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) equation respectively under nitrogen and argon. Electrochemical measurements were performed in a three-electrode system using the cyclic voltammetry (CV). The experimental results indicated that the physical activation increased the specific surface area of activated carbon fibers. And the electrochemical performance was considerably enhanced by increase of specific surface area and micropore volumes. |
