In this work, activated carbon (AC) was prepared using a chemical activation method, and their adsorption performance for harmful gas removal (SOX and NOX) was evaluated. AC was manufactured at 850°C for 120 min from petroleum pitch (softening point 280°C)/KOH mixture (1:4 ratio). Prepared AC was additionally modified by urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in the 5 to 20 wt.% using a spraying coating technique. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis were used to observe the surface characteristics, N2/77K adsorption isotherms were employed to determine textural properties of the modified AC. The harmful gas removal performance of the AC was evaluated using a non-dispersive gas infrared analyzer. |
