Poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBA) is segmented block copolymer where the hard segment consist of polyamide and the soft segment consist of flexible polyether. Because of its good balance of physical and mechanical properties, PEBA is widely used in diverse applications, such as seals, automotive clip gaskets, air bag covers, hoses, and many others in the automotive, transportation, biomedical devices. In this study, we introduced ionic group (-SO3-Na+) onto the hard segment of the copolymer in order to modify the properties of PEBA. The sulfonated PEBA (sPEBA) was synthesized via N-substitution reaction of the copolymer with 1,3-propane sultone after treating the polymer with sodium hydride in NMP. Effect of ion content on thermal, mechanical and rheological properties of sPEBA was investigated by DSC, DMA, tensile test and ARES, respectively. |
