We cannot imagine our modern life without polymers. From clothing to space shuttles almost everything is made from polymeric materials. Along this line, diverse applications of engineered polymers are now ubiquitous in every field of industry, and it is a continuous trend. In this seminar we will present an overview of the synthesis and application of five major polymer systems in lubricant industry including olefin copolymers (OCP), polymethacrylates (PMA), hydrogenated poly(styrene-co-butadiene or isoprene) (HSD or SIP), polyisobutylene (PIB) and esterified poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SPE). In particular, our discussion will also cover various synthetic methodologies to tailor those polymers’ properties. |
