제목 Fabrication of Drug-Eluting Beads with Inherent X-ray Opacity and Biodegradability for Transarterial Chemoembolization
초록 Drug-eluting beads (DEBs) are size-calibrated microspheres used for transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) procedures, occluding the blood supply to the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Conventional DEBs have some limitations in their biodegradability or x-ray visibility, which cause operational inconvenience and risk of non-target embolization. In this research, x-ray contrast agent-incorporated polymeric microparticles (MPs) were fabricated with a double-emulsion method for the application to TACE. The size distribution of the final product was analyzed with an optical microscope. The x-ray visibility was determined with a real-time C-arm device. The size of MPs was about several hundred micrometers, and it showed narrow size distribution. MPs were determined to have enough x-ray attenuation property to be visualized with a C-arm device. In conclusion, it is confirmed that the polymeric MPs developed in this study have high potentials for the treatment of cancer.
