Synthetic polymers are inherently combustible. Many attempts have been made to make organic polymers flame resistant. Inorganic substances have been added to polymers, but the amounts need to make polymer flame resistant changes the physical properties such that their usage are limited. Halogen containing organic copmounds have been successfully used, but their combustion products are environmentally harmful. Phosphorous containing compounds are replacing halogen compounds, particularly, phosphorous and nitrogen containing compounds function synergistically, however, small molecules bloom out from the compounded polymers and the polymers become inflamable in due course. Polymeric flame retardand which are compatible with many different kinds of polymers are desirable. We have synthesized polymeric flame retardant which contain 2:1 N:P, which will meet market demand. |
