Temperature responsive graft copolymerization onto natural polymer |

The phase transition temperature of stimuli responsive copolymers depends on their composition, conformation and molecular weight distribution. The polymer prepared using controlled methods of polymerization have provided an opportunity to obtain polymers with well defined molecular weights and distribution. To obtain a well defined graft copolymer and to control phase transition temperature of grafted cellulose, the graft copolymerization has been carried out using atom transfer radical polymerization catalyst in presence of binary mixture of the monomer. The grafted chains were characterized for their molecular weights and distributions. The sequence lengths of grafted polymers were determined using elemental and spectral data of the grafted chains. The phase transition temperature of the grafted cellulose was evaluated to produce temperature responsive surfaces for various applications such as temperature sensitive separations and temperature controlled delivery systems. |
