제목 Enhanced Ion Exchange Capacity of Polypropylene Membrane via Plasma Polymerization Coating
초록 Ion exchange membranes were prepared by plasma polymerization coating of acrylic acid on polypropylene membrane and plasma polymerization conditions were optimized by varying plasma power (5-20W), internal pressure (30-70mTorr) and treatment time (0-80min). Oxygen plasma etching was also carried out before or after plasma polymerization coating, or oxygen flowing was performed after plasma polymerization coating. Then, the membranes were subjected to electrochemical property measurements, such as ion exchange capacity, electric resistance and transport number as well as to water uptake evaluation. All plasma polymer coatings were characterized by FT-ATR, a-step, TGA, contact angle analyzer and SEM. The plasma polymer coated membranes exhibited ion exchange capacity (IEC) of 1.22 mmol/gr-membrane and transport number (TN) of 0.81 at the optimum condition, while oxygen plasma etching + acrylic acid plasma polymerization coating provided 1.8 mmol/gr-membrane (IEC) and 0.88 (TN).
