Three activated carbons (ACs) for the electrodes of supercapacitors were prepared from polystyrene-resins using the KOH, ZnCl2 and ZnCl2/KOH activation. The electrochemical performance of the ACs was determined bycyclicvoltammetryand compared with that of a commercial AC, which was especially prepared for use in supercapacitors. The ZnCl2/KOH activated ACs presented higher BET surface area and larger pore volume than those of the others, and had a different surface morphologies. When used for supercapacitor electrodes, it exhibited excellent capacitance characteristics showed a high specific capacitance, which was nearly twice that of the commercial ACs. |
