제목 Quantitative analysis on impurity of cyclic polystyrene via ATRP and click cyclization
초록 Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of polymers with α-alkyne and ω-azide functionality and azide–alkyne click cyclization are very popular methods for synthesizing cyclic polymers. However, a quantitative analysis of the byproducts generated during the synthesis procedure still remains unresolved. In this study, cyclic polystyrenes and their precursors were quantitatively analyzed by HPLC and MALDI-TOF MS. Normal phase liquid chromatography (NPLC) was chosen to separate the polymers according to molecular weight as well as polar functionality. Each fractions collected from NPLC separation was identified by MALDI-TOF MS analysis. We confirm that azide-alkyne click-coupled dimers exist in both linear precursor and cyclic product and a significant amount of dimers is generated via self-click coupling post-reaction at ambient temperature. This cyclic polymer impurity analysis provides good insight for optimizing the synthesis procedure to obtain high purity cyclic polymer.
