Polyurethane foam is basically affected by polyol, isocyanate, chain extenders, blowing agents, surfactants, catalysts, flame retardants etc., which all influence flame behavior and retardancy in certain aspects. Flame retardancy of polyurethane foam was elucidated in conjunction with tertiary amine and organotin catalytic reactions, halogen induced flame retardancy, chain reactions of phosphorous, intercalation effects of expandable graphite, hydrogen bonding of blowing agent cation. Reaction mechanisms were also elaborated in tandem with experimental data such as FT-IR, TGA, DSC, Calorimetry, thermal conductivity, and SEM. This can enable to improve the rigid and flexible polyurethane framework and further develop the novel flame retardant polyurethane composite down the road. |
