Activated carbon, which contains various pore structures, is used as adsorbent, catalyst, filter media, and so on. For industrial purpose, it is widely used in waste gas care, solvent recovery, water treatment, etc. Thus, it requires some essential properties such as thermal stability, mechanical property, particle size distribution, and so on. In this study, spherical particles were synthesized from furfural-urea resin by suspension polymerization, and they were converted to spherical activated carbon particles by carbonization in furnace under nitrogen. Toluene was used as pore-forming agent during suspension polymerization in order to control the surface area and the pore size of activated carbon, and the effect of the content of pore-forming agent on the properties, morphology, and surface characteristics of the particles were analyzed by using DSC, TGA, SEM, and BET. |
