제목 Powder injection molding using water-soluble binder
초록 Powder injection molding (PIM) is an expanding technology for large volume production of small parts with complex shape which would be expensive and/or difficult to produce by other methods. PIM process is usually composed of mixing the organic binder with the metal powder (or ceramic), injection molding, debinding and sintering.
In this study, water-soluble binder including polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as a binder. To increase the mechanical properties and easy processability, two different polymers were added to PEG. Stainless steel powder with irregular shape and the average particle diameter of 8 µm was employed.
The phase behavior of PEG and two polymers was studied by using turbidity measurement and optical microscopy. The isothermal crystallization of the binder was investigated with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) to find how fast the green part is ejected from an injection molder. The viscosity of the green part was measured by Advanced Rheometrics Expansion System (ARES) and the capillary rheometer.
