Chlorine evolution reaction (CER) is a critical anode reaction in chlor-alkali electrolysis, the chlorate industry and wastewater treatment. Although precious metal-based mixed metal oxides (MMOs) have been widely used as CER catalysts, they suffer from the concomitant generation of oxygen during the CER. The selectivity for CER is not ideal. Herein, we demonstrate that Ti doped PtRu can catalyse the CER with excellent activity and selectivity and also reduces cost. Notably, PtRuTi nanoparticle catalyst exhibits near 100% CER selectivity with 0.137 M Cl- and 0.5 M Cl- in neutral saline solutions. one the other hand, PtRuTi nanoparticle catalyst exhibits excellent long-term stability at 800 mA cm−2. This excellent activity and stability at high-current density provides the considerable potential for the practical applications of PtRuTi nanoparticle catalyst. |
