Quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) as one of the most promising solar cells for third generation photovoltaics have been attracting considerable attention in the past several years. However, the major recombination process in QDSSCs is the reaction of excited electrons in QDs with the electrolyte. To develop highly efficient solar cells, the electrons on the photoanode must preferentially transfer along the oriented channels and the back transfer should be prevented. For this purpose, organic molecules with steric hinderance that can effectively adsorb on the TiO2 surface are introduced to further inhibit the back reaction in QDSSCs. This work provides new understanding regarding the surface properties of quantum dots solar cells, while presenting a new strategy for constructing a high-voltage QDSSCs. |
