This study introduces an attractive shear stress-responsive rheological behavior of water-in-silicone (W/S) oil emulsion fluids. Utilization of bentonite is truly intriguing, as it has particular surface properties, such as high specific surface area, high cation exchange capacity, and layered platelet structure. In addition, bentonite can produce a unique structure, called ‘the house of cards’ by hydrogen bonding at the edge of bentonite. Herein, we attempted to stabilize W/S emulsions by using the surface-modified bentonites, in which quaternary ammonium salts were electrostatically coated the bentonite surface. Finally, we showed that our appoach not only allowed us to structurally stabilized the W/S emulsions, but also enabled tuning of their rheological behaviors. |
