Antibacterial Activity of Versatile Substrates Using Catechol Conjugated Polyquaternary |

Quaternary ammoniums is known to be effective destruction against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial activity of QA compounds is strongly dependent on their overall molecular structure and the length of their alkyl chains. In this study, to obtain highly adhesive polymer with prolonged antimicrobial activities and catechol moiety has been quaternized to polymer. Investigation of the antimicrobial activity of the antibacterial polymer-coated film against both gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) and gram-negative Escherichia coli (E.coli) stains reveals a highly efficient antimicrobial effect under both normal and extreme stress conditions due to the biocidal effect of the quaternized amine when the materials are applied on the surface of various substrates. Therefore, the synthesized polymer offers merit as a potential coating material to protect them from microbial contamination in prolonged time and highly stressed environment. |
