Silicon hydrogel contact lenses were prepared by copolymerization of 3-[tris(trimethylsiloxy)silyl]propyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, N,N-dimethylacrylamide and N-vinyl pyrrolidone in the presence of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinker and benzoyl peroxide as a initiator. The bulk-polymerized silicon hydrogel lenses were exposed to O2 plasma to introduce peroxide groups on the surface of them, and immediately afterwards, they were added to an aqueous solution of hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and N-methacryloyl-D-glucamine (MAG), and then heated to produce radicals on the surfaces of the lenses. Radical copolymerization of HEA and MAG was occurred on the surfaces of the lenses. Physical properties of silicone hydrogel contact lens covered with the hydrophilic copolymer [poly(HEA-co-MAG)] were investigated. |
