A Quantitative Investigation of Rheological Percolation in PC/CNT Nanocomposites Using Crossover Points in Dynamic Shear Moduli |

We demonstrated the rheological percolation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in polymer matrices. To diversify the microstructures, which is dependent on the polymer radius of gyration and chain entanglements, polycarbonates of different molecular weights were used to fabricate polymer/CNT nanocomposites. We found that the percolation theory cannot be taken into account for the determination of rheological percolation threshold in polymer/CNT nanocomposites with high molecular weight matrices. Instead, the crossover points in dynamic shear moduli were investigated to impart a quantitative indication of the rheological percolation threshold of nanofillers in polymer matrices. The effect of molecular weight and shear viscosity of the polymer medium on the percolation of CNTs were demonstrated experimentally with this definition. |
