This paper utilizes the experimental design and response surface methodology (RSM) to optimize various process parameters for the bioaccumulation of the dye Reactive Red-198 using Trametes versicolor. For experimental design, a 23 full factorial central composite design was successfully employed. The RSM models were tested with analysis of variance (ANOVA). The combined effect of the parameters such as pH, temperature and dye concentration on the bioaccumulation of the dye, biomass concentration and color removal were studied and optimized (pH = 2, temperature = 30 oC and dye concentration = 30 mg/L). From the optimized values, maximum biomass concentration and maximum color removal using biomass were illustrated and is an indication of a highly effective accumulation process. The experimental results closely agree with those obtained from the RSM analysis and multistage Monte-Carlo optimization method, confirming that the RSM could be effectively used to optimize the process used in this study. |
