Energy production using biocatalysts has been studied and reported. The process of production of 2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BDO) using carbon monoxide as feed stock has both market ability and commercial viability. However, 2,3-BDO is very hydrophilic chemical so it takes a lot of time and cost to purify it. It is necessary to convert 2,3-BDO to other hydrophobic products directly in medium. A recombinant cell is constructed by transforming the plasmid harboring the gene necessary for mevalonate production into Pseudomonas putida KT2440 which can uptake 2,3-BDO. In order to show that 2,3-BDO is more suitable carbon source for mevalonate production than other carbon sources, experiments about cell growth and mevalonate production were performed with various carbon sources such as 2,3-BDO, glucose, and glycerol. The amount of produced mevalonate in the condition of using 2,3-BDO as carbon source was 1.79 g/L, and those of glucose and glycerol were 0.11 and 0.17 g/L, respectively, for 48 hours. |
