Carbazole species is a electrochromic material, which changes their color within a potential, and shows the dark green color when the oxidative form is generated. Especially, it has been reported that the rapid switching and stability of devices can be obtained by using a dicarbazyl form. In present study, dicarbazyl molecules were incorporated to the surface of polymeric microspheres and applied to the reflective electrochromic display (R-ECD). 3,3'-dicabazyl was synthesized by the chemical oxidation of carbazoles in chloroform with FeCl3, then, gently refluxed with the chloro-functional groups on the polymeric microspheres in dimethylsiloxane with NaOH. The existence and redox reactions of the dicarbazyls on the microspheres were confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscope and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. The response time, coloration of R-ECD were also investigated. |
