Recently, renewable raw materials can be exploited for the production of bio-based polyol from vegetable oils. Their biodegradability, renewability and low prices have a market value in comparison with petroleum-based polyol. In this study, a bio-based polyol was prepared from cardanol. The polyol containing a lot of hydroxyl groups could be obtained via the chemical reaction with the unsaturated moiety of cardanol. The cardanol-based polyol was synthesized using chemical modification of the cardanol by epoxidation reaction with formic acid (HCOOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), followed by ring-opening reaction. The molecular structure of polyol was characterized by fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. |
