Dunaliella tertiolecta is able to grow in a broad range of environments and is successfully used for the treatment of wastewater. The ability of Dunaliella tertiolecta to produce high lipids and carbohydrates under certain culturing conditions had made it an important feedstock for biofuel production. The impacts of variations like nitrogen, salinity, light and CO2 on carbohydrate and lipid production were investigated. Dunaliella tertiolecta was exposed to different variations like nitrates, salts, light and dark as well as with and without CO2. During nitrogen limitation and in the presence of light and 5% CO2, lipid contents increased while there was no significant change in carbohydrate contents. On the other hand, salinity limitation, in the absence of light and CO2 resulted in increased carbohydrate as well as lipid contents. |
