Block copolymer thin films with hierarchical organization |

Hierarchical structures can explicitly be generated at different length scales and with varying degrees of complexity by self-assembly of the soft source materials. Here a couple of systems with hierarchical architectures based on block copolymer self-assembly are introduced. The first one is an organic/inorganic hybrid where block copolymer mixtures in thin films are used as a template for arrays of inorganic particles. Several types of nanoparticles were selectively incorporated into the microdomains. Secondly, the rod-coil block copolymer systems containing semiconducting polymers are presented. When the π-conjugated rods are incorporated into the rodcoil block copolymers, their photophysical properties are associated, to a large extent, with their self-assembled nanostructure and so their performance is defined. The third system is the macroporous block copolymer film by breath figure method to produce hierarchical structures together with self-assembled nanostructure. |
