제목 Roll-to-roll Production of Layer-controlled Molybdenum Disulfide : A Platform for 2D Semiconductor-based Industrial Applications
초록 Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has sparked a huge potential for applications in post-silicon electronic devices complementing graphene with a gapless semimetallic nature. MoS2 opens up new possibility of 2D electronic devices in terms of applications for low standby and low operating power electronics coupled with further miniaturization beyond the Moore’s Law. In general, MoS2 nanostructures have been synthesized via CVD-based techniques [1, 2], which are inadequate for practical applications due to their low production yield, inefficient transfer methods, and expensive production cost. Hence, a major breakthrough in MoS2 synthesis combined with roll-to-roll manufacturing is indispensable for practical electronic and optoelectronic applications. Indubitably, a typical chemical vapor deposition technique based on simultaneous vaporization of MoO3 and S powder for MoS2 growth is incongruent to utilize roll-to-roll manufacturing on inexpensive metal foils, because of the sulfurization of metal foils induced by oversupplied sulfur. In order to overcome the insurmountable hurdle, we propose an unprecedented methodology for large-scale production of layer-controlled MoS2 on inexpensive substrates involving simple coating of single source precursor and subsequent roll-to-roll-based thermal decomposition. It provides a new pathway to realize many potential opportunities for practical applications in electronic/optoelectronic devices and catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction.
