Recently, we demonstrated that the piezocapacitive pressure sensors made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanowebs can monitor both static pressure and dynamic pressure through measuring capacitance change by the thickness change when external pressure is applied. TPU nanowebs showed larger initial value of capacitance, larger change in capacitance, and lower hysteresis curve in pressure-capacitance when compared with conventional polyurethane foam sheets. They, however, still have not so large capacitance change to get good signals with high S/N ratio. So, in this study, we prepared sensitivity-enhanced piezocapacitive sensor without any increase of sensor size through parallel connection of each capacitor by inserting electrode between folded TPU nanowebs. We also measured body weight and evaluated energy expenditure by applying these piezocapacitive sensors to smart insoles.
