제목 | Growth and evolution of Hg2Br2 crystal for acousto-optic tunable filter application |
초록 | Usually, single crystals of mercurous bromide (Hg2Br2) were grown by physical vapor transport (PVT) technique in closed ampoules in vertical mode.1–2 However, it is a very challenging work to grow it as a form of single crystals. Rather, polycrystalline growth is more dominant than single crystals. For this reason, we studied the orientation dependence of Hg2Br2 crystal which is critical factor to affect a quality of crystal growth. We synthesized two types of crystal using PVT growth: poly and single crystal of Hg2Br2. The PVT grown Hg2Br2 crystals were characterized using various analysis instruments. The crystalline orientations of the as-grown crystals were determined using high resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) technique. The HRXRD analysis of the (110) plane reveals that (110), (220) and (330) planes of the (110) family plane are clearly observed. And the comparison results of both crystals confirmed that the single crystal Hg2Br2 possessed the higher crystallinity. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to reveal the stoichiometry and binding energy states of the as-synthesized Hg2Br2 crystals. As a result of XPS measurement, Hg, Br and C are observed. Furthermore, Raman Spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) were also measured to find the origin for single and polycrystalline crystal growth. Therefore, the studies of the growth mechanism will provide a chance to synthesize high quality Hg2Br2 crystals for potential acousto-optic tunable filter device applications. References 1. T. H.
