In this work, we prepared SBA-15 mesoporous silica platelet (SMSP)/polyethylene (PE) composites by melt blending. The SMSP was treated with octanol by chemical reaction of alcohol molecules with surface silanols for enhanceing the intimate blending of silica and PE. The characteristics of SMSP were characterized by nitrogen full isotherms, SEM, TEM, contact angle, FT-IR, elemental analysis, and TGA. The results indicated that after octanol modification, the SMSP showed the uniform ordered mesoporous pore channel, and the number of organic functional groups grafted on the surfaces of mesoporous, and the hydrophobicity had the most obviously improvement. The SEM result also showed that SMSP after surface modification was dispersed uniformly in the matrix PE, and showed a good compatibility with PE compared with pristine SMSP. In addition, the tensile strength of the composites was increased after the adding of modified SMSP. |
