Layer-by-layer (LbL) technique is a very versatile method to prepare thin polyelectrolyte multilayer films. LbL method is often used for the surface property modification of a given polymer film. Here, we prepared multilayer films composed of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and sulfonated poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (sPPO) on the surface of quartz glass or Nafion as a substrate. Also, PAH/sPPO films was crosslinked by UV irradiation after infiltration of diazido-stilbenedisulfonic acid disodium salt (DAS). Subsequently, erosion experiment against strong alkali solution was conducted for both uncrosslinked and crosslinked films, and chemical stability of multilayer films was confirmed thought change of absorptivity by UV-VIS spectroscopy. In this study, crosslinked film showed better chemical durability against alkali solution, and also showed improved membrane properties, such as higher proton conductivity and low methanol permeability. |
