Surfactant-assisted Extraction and Preconcentration of Bioactive Compounds from Herb |

Solvent extractions were used for obtaining bioactive compounds from different herbs. In order to replace the traditional toxic solvents which cause serious environmental problems, surfactant-assisted extraction was proposed as an effective and cheap green extraction method. A suitable surfactant can be selected by considering the chemical properties of the target compounds. The bioactive compounds were extracted from the solid matrix with subsequent preconcentration by cloud point extraction. This proposed method was applied for extraction and preconcentration of tanshinones from Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bunge. Tanshinones were extracted with surfactant-aqueous solution and the concentrations of tanshinones increased after cloud point extraction. |
