A great interest has been paid to the ion transport mechanism in polymer electrolyte since it is most important factor determining of the efficiency of electrochemical devices such as battery, fuel cell and chemical sensor. In this study, we have carried out an in-depth analysis of proton mobility in model ionic block copolymers by combining dynamic light scattering, small angle x-ray scattering, and electrophoretic measurements. This system of interests is a series of sulfonated poly(styrene-b-methylbutylene) (PSS-b-PMB) copolymers with different the degree of polymerizations. The proton transport in PSS-b-PMB copolymers was found to be facilitated by the decrease in the ionic domain sizes. Interestingly, unique scaling relationship between proton mobilities and the micellar radii was described, where the exponent is revealed to be sensitive function of the shape of ionic domains. |
