Silver loaded BaMoO4-Er3+/Yb3+ octahedron microcrystals were fabricated via microwave hydrothermal process. The antibacterial activity of synthesized photocatalysts were investigated via visible light irradiation and disk diffusion assay method towards E. coli DH5α, Pseudomonas aeruginosa KACC10232 and Staphylococcus aureus KCTC1916 bacteria. Experimental results indicated that the killing percentages are 100, 99.95 and 97.87 for E. coli (0.2 mg/ml), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (2 mg/ml) and Staphylococcus aureus (2 mg/ml) within 2 hours by photocatalyst. The FESEM image was used to observe the morphology of bacterial cells as well as the extent of damage. Our results confirmed the performance that the photocatalyst, Ag-BaMoO4-Er3+/Yb3+, degraded the Rhodamine B dye (20 ppm) in 180 minutes around 98.21%, which is nearly sixteen times as compare of host material BaMoO4. The contribution of Er3+/Yb3+ ions doping and silver particles dispersing in BaMoO4 towards antibacterial and photocatalytic efficacy were explained with the help mechanism. The present work provides the insight of environmental remediation via degradation of industrial waste colored organic dyes and destruction of microorganisms. |
