제목 | Synthesis of catechol-based conductive binder for seawater batteries and its battery performances |
초록 | A novel seawater battery, which uses natural seawater as cathode active materials, has recently been developed. In seawater battery systems, the polymer binder is an irreplaceable component to attach catalyst to carbon-based current collector. However, commercial polymer binders (e.g. PvdF) is hydrophobic, resulting in low wettability of seawater to current collectors. Moreover, these binders act like an insulator between the anode and cathode due to the high band gap which leads to low battery performance. Herein, we synthesized a strongly adhesive and hydrophilic binder using a polyethylene glycol and catechol groups. In addition, a butyl-anthracene monomer was added to improve the electron conductivity. Battery performance was tested by measuring cycle stability and power density, along with energy and voltage efficiencies. The results show that the synthesized polymer binder reduces gap voltage up to ~25% and increase the power density up to ~141% after 30 cycles compared to PvdF. |
