제목 SnO2 nanowires decorated by insulating amorphous carbon layers for improved NO2 gas detection at room temperature.
초록  For few years, the amorphous carbon has been studied its properties and fabrication by many research materials. Amorphous carbon (a-C) have unusual electronic properties, however there have not been enough researches about the application of amorphous carbon to sensors.
In this study, we deposited insulating a-C layer on SnO2 NWs to improve the electronic properties at room temperature. Synthesis of the SnO2-based nanocomposite did not require preprocessing and functionalization, requiring just a few second for processing time. Decorating a-C layer is important to detect NO2 gas. A new sensing mechanism is proposed to explain the process of gas sensing at room temperature. When the NO2 contacts the sensing layer, it brings more electrons from the sensor surface and changes the diameter of the conduction channel. The amorphous carbon increases the surface area highly and supply electrons to SnO2 to change the conduction channel width inside the SnO2, which improve the NO2 gas sensing. Relevant sensing mechanism is usually described through heterojunction formation. The proposed gas sensor can be operated for NO2 gas sensing application at room temperature and has various characteristics such as high response, high selectivity and low power consumption.
