Application of Fusion Rate and Densification of Lead Glass Frits in Transparent Dielectric |

In PDP, lead glass frits are widely used for the transparent dielectric, barrier rib and sealing material. However, to prevent the generation of hazardous waste, European Union (EU) have enacted Restriction on Hazardous Substance (RoHS). From this reason, it is necessary to develop other materials. Fusion rate is an important factor to control an optimal firing temperature the application of transparent dielectric in plasma display panels. Compared to lead glasses, lead-free glasses (new materials) have different fusion characteristic during firing schedule. So, lead-free glasses are much more difficult for using the transparent dielectric materials. In this research, we observed the thermal behavior of lead glass frits for various particle sizes using a hot stage microscope. The fusion rate of glass was affected by frit composition, frit size and heating rate. This paper presents preliminary results for the fusion behavior as well as the densification rate of lead glass frits. |
