High Mechanical Properties of Glass-Ceramic with Crystalline Phases for LTCC Materials |

Generally, fabricating a circuit board divides two processes such as substrate and formation of electrode process. This method is not suitable for high integration. Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) has been used for this reason. Moreover, the strength of LTCC materials has been greatly important by increasing layers in devices. In this study, glass-ceramic composite was made from alumina powder (10~50 wt%) and two glass frits (50~90wt%) which had a different portion. The glass frits were formatted to the crystal phases: CaAl2Si2O8 (Anorthite) and CaMgSi2O6 (Diopside) at sintering temperature. The produced crystal phases improved the mechanical properties of glass-ceramics after sintering. We investigated the sintering behavior, crystallization characteristic of glass-ceramic, optimal sintering condition and mechanical properties on the glass-ceramic composite for fabricating the high strength LTCC substrate. Based on our results, the glass-ceramic composite can be one of the candidates for LTCC application. |
