제목 Separation of propane and propylene by novel desorbent swing adsorption (DSA) Process using zeolite 13X
초록 Propylene is one of the most important raw materials in the petrochemical industry. Since propylene is produced with unreacted propane, a separation process is needed. Conventional separation, mostly cryogenic distillation, is still highly energy-intensive due to the similar physical properties. Therefore, cyclic adsorption processes are considered a possible alternative, making desorbent swing adsorption (DSA) one of the candidates. It uses a desorbent to regenerate the adsorption column without swinging pressure or temperature.

In this study, a DSA process for separating propane and propylene was developed. The isotherms and kinetics of propane and propylene were measured and compared with those of C2. To ensure the operational feasibility of the process, sequential breakthrough experiments were carried out. It was confirmed that the separation of propane and propylene and regeneration of the columns succeeded with desorbent. The adsorption dynamics and the separation performance of 2-bed DSA were simulated by a rigorous mathematical model. The DSA process is expected to achieve high performance and energy efficiency simultaneously.
