Investigation of Mechanical and Interfacial Properties of Nano SiC/Epoxy Composites with Optimum Dispersion Condition |

SiC nano fillers were added into epoxy composites. The optimum dispersion condition was dependent upon content of SiC nano fillers and sonication time. To investigate the effects of different dispersion conditions, 5 concentrations including 0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 5wt% were used to fabricate the composites. The electrical capacitance was measured to evaluate the dispersion of SiC-epoxy nanocomposites. FE-SEM was used to observe the interface changes of different conditions, and the mechanical damage was evaluated via fracture surfaces. Interfacial properties of carbon fiber and SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were also evaluated by contact angle measurements. The optimum dispersion condition could improve mechanical and interfacial properties.
