제목 Synthesis of Amphiphilic Silica Nanoplatelets using β-Sheet Structured Polypeptide Templates for enhanced stabilization of Pickering emulsions
초록 In general, platelet-shape particles have high interfacial adhesion energy originated from their aspect ratio so that there have been tried to synthesized new types of particles with a tailored platelet structure. Herein, we introduce an approach to synthesize silica nanoplatelets (SiNPs) which exhibited structurally enhanced stabilizations of oil-water interface. For this, we synthesized the SiNPs by precipitating silica from polypeptide templates with β-sheet structured conformation. Amphiphilic modification was conducted by silane reaction. The surface modification of SiNPs led to formation of a preferred configuration at the oil-water interface. The platelet geometry of SiNP has high adhesion energy so we could obtain extremely stable O/W and W/O Pickering emulsion. These results highlight that the SiNPs developed in this study could have great potential for applications to complex multiphasic fluid systems.
