Silica nanotubes become very important nanomaterials which can accommodate drugs, catalysts and dyes etc. and be very useful for upgrading display due to its optical transparency. Our previous work reported that silica nanotube was synthesized by using Glycyl dodecylamide (GDA) as a gelator with controllable pore size. In this work, SNT also successfully synthesized by using microwave, which gave higher aspect ratio, thicker thickness, and more uniform morphology than the conventional method with dramatic decrease in synthesis time as well. Also the mechanism for the formation of silica nanotube was investigated with 1H NMR study to see the change of GDA structure in various alcohols and organic compounds. Hydrogen bonding nature of GDA seems to govern the formation of silica nanotube and the role of alcohol was very crucial for not only solubilizing GDA but also restructuring the gelation structure for hydrolysis and condensation of TEOS as a silica source. |
