The objective of the present study is to experimentally evaluate the performance of mixed-bed ion exchange column for silica removal at ultralow concentrations under the various conditions. Using a fixed ion exchange column, the effects of concentration of feed solution and flow rate on the performance of the unit for silica removal were analyzed. For the experiments, step changes in concentration and flow rate were arbitrarily introduced during the process. The results of the experiments were plotted as effluent concentration vs. run time. The results of this study will support various information to evaluate the effects of those system parameters on the performance of mixed-bed ion exchange for silica removal and to understand systematically the phenomena of ion exchange. Also, the results will be the bases for the reasonalbe design and operation of the system by supporting the model that can predict accurately the column performance to remove silica at ultralow concentrations. |
