Atom Tranfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) is a transition-metal-mediated living radical polymerization of vinyl monmers. Here we use this polymerization technique to synthesize a range of diblock copolymers, triblock copolymers, and star polymers with three to eight arms which having hydrophilic-hydophobic and double hydrophilic blocks. The monomers used for the synthesis are styrene, tertiary butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, ethylene glycol etc. Almost all polymerizations were conducted using copper bromide-bipyridine complex system. Here we initiate the polymerizations with as synthesized initiators based on resourcinarenes, carbazoles, cynuric acid etc. Macroinitiators were also synthesized using commercially available polyethylene glycol. All the polymers were characterized by various spectro-analytical techniques. |
